Upcoming events

Aug 27 - 29, 2008: BGB Motorsports Race: Thunderbolt Raceway

Millville, New Jersey

BGB Motorsports cars #83 and #38 are helping raise awareness for bone marrow failure disease. The #83 car has special meaning, as AA&MDSIF celebrates the 25th anniversary of its founding in 1983. The BGB Motorsports team's involvement is personal – Judi Wilkinson, the team's office manager, whose husband Garry and son Danny both work for BGB Motorsports, was diagnosed and treated for aplastic anemia five years ago. Hers is the story of a survivor turned driven advocate. Knowing that thousands of people were watching the team's #83 car win at Daytona earlier this year, Judi decided that if she could put the AA&MDSIF logo on the car it would mean thousands of people learning about a disease too few have ever heard of. From her own experience when she was diagnosed with aplastic anemia in 2003, Judi knows how difficult it is to explain to family and friends that you have a disease of which they've never heard.

Aug 31 - Sep 7, 2008: Triathalete Swims, Bikes and Runs for AAMDSIF

Louisville, KY and Madison, WI

Steve Janowiak has trained once again to compete in another Ironman Triathlon, but this time he is doing two of them in one week to raise funds for the AA&MDSIF in honor of his wife, Joanna.

The Ironman Triathlon is a grueling 140.6 mile journey consisting of a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile bike, and a 26.4 mile run! The 140.6 miles must be completed in 17 hours or less for athletes to earn the coveted title of Ironman.

"Because aplastic anemia is such a rare disease and so difficult to raise awareness and money for, I decided to do something just as rare and difficult."

Joanna, was diagnosed with aplastic anemia in 2003. "Without the money people raised for medical research over the past 20 years, my wife might not be here today", explained Steve immediately before his first Ironman Triathlon in 2005.

Please, show your support for Steve by donating to the AA&MDSIF in honor of Joanna Janowiak. Steve will receive a list of names of people who have donated for this event. To find out more information about the Triathalon or the Janowiaks, please visit www.2foraa.blogspot.com
