AAMDSIF depends on the commitment, creativity, talent and energy of its volunteers. They are our local ambassadors, and we rely on their event organizing skills to support patients, family and friends in their community. Their work also contributes to the Foundation's global mission to help bone marrow failure bone marrow failure: A condition that occurs when the bone marrow stops making enough healthy blood cells. The most common of these rare diseases are aplastic anemia, myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) and paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH). Bone marrow failure can be acquired (begin any time in life) or can be… patients wherever they may be.
Peer Support Network volunteers, including patients, caregivers and family members, willing to listen and offer comfort and support. They share personal experiences, coping strategies, problem solving skills and informational resources. The support sessions take place over the phone and/or email.
Volunteers receive special training provided by AAMDSIF. They are also required to sign an agreement stating that they will keep all caller information private and confidential.

Our support group leaders are volunteers, including patients, caregivers and family members, willing to listen and offer comfort and support. They facilitate groups so patients and families can share personal experiences, coping strategies, problem solving skills and informational resources. The support group sessions take place virtually.
