As a physician–scientist, Dr. Tibes is grateful for the opportunity to advance treatments for people who have cancer through my own groundbreaking research. He has been involved in developing national treatment guidelines for leukemia, and he has been actively engaged in translational research to identify and develop new leukemia treatments over the last few years. Tiffany N. Tanaka, MD, is a board-certified hematologist specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of blood cancers and blood disorders, with an emphasis on myeloid malignancies. Dr. Tanaka is a translational researcher who focuses on the development of early phase trials that offer new cancer treatments for patients. Her research work includes the study of epigenetic and genetic biomarkers in myelodysplastic syndromes (bone marrow disorders in which the bone marrow does not produce enough healthy blood cells), with the aim of translating these into clinical therapies to improve patient care

Dr. Tamari is a board-certified hematologist and oncologist specializing in the use of stem cell transplantation to treat patients with hematologic malignancies (cancers that arise from blood cells). She works as part of a multidisciplinary team of transplantation specialists who treat patients with these diseases. As a clinical researcher, Dr. Tamari's work focuses on identifying risk factors associated with relapse after allogeneic stem cell transplantation for myelodysplastic syndrome and acute muyelogenous leukemia. Dr. Tabbara has researched blood and bone marrow stem cell transplant. He established the bone marrow transplant program at The GWU Medical Center in 1992 and has performed several hundred stem cell transplants treating patients with leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma and myelodysplastic syndrome. Additional areas of interest for Dr. Tabbara are breast and lung cancers. He has served as the director of the medical thoracic oncology program at GWU since 2003.

Dr. Shereck specializes in bone marrow transplantation for children with cancer, blood disorders and immunodeficiencies. She conducts clinical trials as a part of the Primary Immune Deficiency Treatment Consortium (PIDTC) and the Pediatric Blood and Marrow Transplant Consortium (PBMTC). Dr. Shereck is also interested in discovering innovative ways to teach the next generation of physicians. She has plenty of opportunities to try out new models of learning through the medical school course she teaches (Blood and Host Defense) and as the fellowship director for pediatric hematology/oncology.

Dr. Savage joined the Clinical Genetics Branch, DCEG, NCI in 2006 as a tenure-track investigator. She was awarded scientific tenure by the NIH and appointed senior investigator in 2012. In 2013, she was promoted to Branch Chief, and in 2018, she became the Clinical Director for DCEG. Dr. Savage received her M.D. from the University of Vermont College of Medicine, completed residency training in Pediatrics at Children’s National Medical Center, in Washington DC, and a fellowship in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at the NCI Pediatric Oncology Branch and Johns Hopkins University.
