Maria Baer joined the University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Cancer Center in Baltimore, Maryland in 2007 as director of hematologic malignancies and professor of medicine and molecular medicine, University of Maryland School of Medicine. She previously served as chief of the leukemia section at Roswell Park Cancer Institute and professor of medicine and associate professor of molecular pharmacology and cancer therapeutics at the University at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences in Buffalo, New York.

Dr. Becker is pursuing several areas of research investigation, including 1) the mechanism of adhesion mediated chemotherapy resistance in acute myeloid leukemia and 2) hematopoietic stem cell gene transfer for a genetic disorder of DNA repair, Fanconi anemia. Mikkael A. Sekeres, MD, MS has been Medical Advisory Board Co-Chair since 2004. He is currently the Physician Liaison in Hematology and Chief of the Division of Hematology at the Sylvester Comprehensive Center at the University. Previously, Dr. Sekeres was the professor of medicine, director of the leukemia program, and Vice Chair for Clinical Research at the Cleveland Clinic Taussig Cancer Institute in Ohio.
